2025 ECHIDNA Global Scholars Program At Brookings Institution, Washington D.C

Applications are now open for the Echidna Global Scholars Program application for 2025. The Echidna Global Scholars Program, hosted by the Brookings Institution and the Center for Universal Education (CUE), offers a unique Fellowship opportunity aimed at strengthening the capacity of local leaders to advance gender equality in education across the Global South. During this six-month fellowship in Washington, D.C., scholars will engage in individual research focused on improving learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming individuals.

The Echidna Global Scholars Program aims to equip scholars with essential leadership development skills and evidence-based policy knowledge to amplify their impact. Scholars will transition to the Echidna Global Scholars Alumni Network, a growing community that promotes sustained influence on gender-transformative education both globally and locally.

The Fellowship consists of two phases:

  1. Pre-residency: This initial phase focuses on research training and capacity building. Scholars will conduct in-country data collection and participate in virtual workshops. They will develop an impact strategy while engaging with local actors, committing approximately 15-20 hours a week during this phase.
  2. Residency: This phase takes place in Washington, D.C., where scholars will expand their reach and impact through the publication and dissemination of their research on Brookings’s multimedia platforms. The residency also includes leadership development and networking opportunities, culminating in the Gender Equality in and through Education Research and Policy Symposium.
