AFRICALICS VISITING PHD FELLOWSHIPS 2025 FOR YOUNG AFRICAN PHD STUDENTS

Applications are now open for the 2025 AfricaLics Visiting PhD Fellowships. The AfricaLics – the African Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems – invites suitable PhD student candidates from African universities to apply for participation in the PhD Visiting Fellowship Programme. This year’s focus is on Innovation and Development, aiming to strengthen research capacity in these critical areas.

The fellowship is particularly geared towards young African researchers from countries classified by the OECD/DAC as low and lower-middle-income. Applicants whose studies—regardless of sectoral discipline—explore the relationship between innovation and economic development or sustainable development studies are encouraged to apply. Female scholars in innovation research are especially welcomed, as AfricaLics is dedicated to increasing the representation of women in this field.

Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a relevant program at an African university and have completed their first year of PhD studies by December 2024. A maximum of six visiting PhD scholarships will be available in 2025, depending on the assessment of applications and funding availability. This is a valuable opportunity for African university students to enhance their research skills and contribute to important economic development research in Africa.
