The National Health Fellowship Programme is an impactful initiative approved by HE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to transform primary healthcare in Nigeria. This highly competitive fellowship program aims to upgrade existing healthcare centres and establish over 8,800 new centres across all local government areas. The focus is to enhance the Nigerian health sector by promoting healthcare transformation through accessible and quality healthcare delivery, while introducing innovative social accountability mechanisms.
The programme is administered by the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office under the office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Successful fellows will be recruited, remunerated, and equipped with the tools and resources necessary to contribute meaningfully to healthcare development in the country.
The fellowship programme lasts for 12 months and offers a comprehensive training experience, including fieldwork, mentorship, and practical exposure to public health policies. Fellows will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects in the health sector reform space, contributing to the broader global health initiatives aimed at improving the health infrastructure in Nigeria. Participants will also receive hands-on leadership development to build the skills necessary for driving long-term changes in the healthcare system.

Eligibility and Requirements
- Age Limit: Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 35 at the time of application.
- Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in health-related fields, IT, or social sciences. Applicants should have demonstrable experience or interest in public health, health-related NGO work, or community-based initiatives.
- Work Experience: Candidates with leadership experience in health projects or community health will be prioritized.
- Other Requirements:
- Must be an indigene of the state being applied for.
- Must possess smartphones with data capabilities (for online meetings like Zoom and WhatsApp).
- Must have strong analytical and entrepreneurial skills.
- Recommendation: A letter from a University Dean, NYSC place of primary assignment, or a respected organization demonstrating character and leadership.
