DELT-Her Initiative 2025: Empowering Female Engineers in Nigeria with Innovation Funding and Mentorship Opportunities

The DELT-Her Initiative (Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her) is a groundbreaking program developed to close the gender gap in Nigeria’s engineering and innovation sectors by providing critical support for female engineers and aspiring professionals. Spearheaded by the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology and Telecommunications (PiCTT), the initiative focuses on empowering women with the tools, funding, networks, and mentorship they need to succeed in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related fields.

In a country where female participation in STEM continues to be significantly low due to systemic barriers and socio-economic limitations, DELT-Her steps forward as a transformative solution to not only uplift women in engineering but also drive innovation for national development. The program acknowledges that empowering women with technological skills and leadership training is essential to foster inclusive growth in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital and industrial economy.

Through a strategic partnership between PiCTT and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), DELT-Her provides an enabling environment for Nigerian women in engineering to ideate, innovate, and implement forward-thinking solutions. Participants will gain access to a wide range of resources including mentorship by industry leaders, financial grants to scale their innovative ideas, and exposure to professional development opportunities.

Selected applicants will be supported with tools to develop projects that align with national priorities such as renewable energy, healthcare innovation, infrastructure technology, agriculture, smart cities, and emerging digital tools. These projects will be evaluated based on their sustainability, scalability, creativity, and relevance to Nigeria’s economic and societal needs. Beyond funding, the program ensures that participants are linked with mentors who will guide them through the process of bringing their ideas to market and scaling them nationally or internationally.

The initiative promotes gender inclusion and is in line with Nigeria’s broader vision for economic diversification and job creation through technological advancement. It also encourages collaboration between academia, industry, and government, ensuring participants benefit from multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral support. Applicants are encouraged to think boldly, build smart, and lead with purpose.
