The Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship is not your average fellowship program—it’s a game-changer. Designed to empower the next generation of medical technology leaders, this intensive fellowship immerses participants in the full innovation process—from concept to implementation.
Fellows begin with a boot camp, where they master the proprietary Biodesign process. Then, they enter clinical immersion, shadowing doctors and nurses in real hospital settings to observe problems firsthand. From there, teams define unmet needs, brainstorm hundreds of concepts, build rapid prototypes, and map out regulatory, IP, and reimbursement strategies.
The experience culminates in final presentations, where fellows pitch their innovations to panels of investors, entrepreneurs, and healthcare stakeholders. But it doesn’t end there—fellows also embark on an externship, working with companies, VC firms, or global health organizations to gain even more field experience.
Over 200 alumni of the program have gone on to launch successful medtech startups, raise venture capital, file patents, and become thought leaders in healthcare. Whether you dream of building a life-saving device, launching a digital health company, or driving innovation in a hospital system, Stanford Biodesign will equip you with the tools, mindset, and network to make it happen.
This year’s fellowship comes at a time when healthcare systems worldwide are crying out for innovation. From pandemic preparedness to AI diagnostics and equitable care delivery, the challenges are vast—and the opportunity to make a difference is historic. The Biodesign Fellowship places you on the frontlines of this revolution.
