Requirement/Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Hold a Ph.D. awarded on or before September 1, 2021 OR possess an equivalent record of professional accomplishment.
2. Be an experienced scholar in the arts, humanities, or social sciences, or a recognized expert in art conservation or museum studies.
3. Align their proposed research with the theme “Repair”, demonstrating relevance and contribution to the field.
4. Be available for a residency of 3, 6, or 9 months during the academic year beginning September 2025.
5. Commit to full participation in all program activities, including seminars, public events, and collaborative sessions with peers.
6. Be fluent in English, as all programming, discussions, and written communication are conducted in English.
7. Submit a complete application including a project proposal, CV, and optional writing sample.
8. Be open to interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in fields such as history, cultural studies, philosophy, literature, and visual arts.
9. Not have been a Getty residential scholar in the past six years.
10. Be willing to engage in Getty’s broader mission, including knowledge sharing, ethical research practices, and public education.
Grant Amount
Participants in the Getty Scholars Program receive exceptional financial support, including:
- $21,500 for a 3-month residency
- $43,000 for a 6-month residency
- $65,000 for a 9-month residency
- $2,000 relocation reimbursement
- Furnished residential housing for the duration of the fellowship
- Private office or study space, along with full access to Getty’s library and archival collections
