The Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) at Princeton University is now accepting applications for the prestigious Fung Global Fellows Program 2026–2027, a fully funded residential fellowship for early-career scholars based outside the United States.
This 10-month fellowship invites outstanding early-career academics from around the world to spend an academic year at Princeton University, engaging in advanced research, cross-disciplinary dialogue, and collaboration around a common annual theme (to be announced). The goal of the program is to support individuals who have demonstrated exceptional scholarly achievement, intellectual promise, and the potential to contribute to global academic conversations in the humanities and social sciences. Upon completion of the fellowship, scholars are expected to return to their home institutions to continue their work.
Programme/Benefits
- Should an offer be made, successful candidates who hold faculty appointments or professional research appointments will be required to submit an official letter from their current employer affirming that they would be permitted to accept the offer and to spend the academic year at Princeton University.
- The work location for these positions is in-person, on campus at Princeton University.
- Expected Salary Range: $100,000.00 to $135,000.00
- The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.

Requirements/ Eligibility criteria
- Early-career scholars will be appointed at the rank of Visiting Research Scholar. To be eligible, applicants must have received their Ph.D. (or equivalent) generally after September 1, 2016. Candidates who are currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program or employed as postdocs are not eligible to apply.
- Fellowships will be awarded to those employed outside the United States who have a faculty appointment or a professional research appointment, and they will be expected to return to their positions at the conclusion of the fellowship.
- Fellowships will be awarded to candidates who have already demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and exhibit unusual intellectual promise but are still at the beginning of their careers. Criteria for the fellowship include the strength of the candidate’s research projects, the relationship of those projects to the program’s theme, the candidate’s previous scholarly work, the candidate’s ability to contribute to the intellectual life and intellectual exchange of the program, and the candidate’s work experience outside the United States. The selection committee is looking to establish a cohort of fellows whose work represents any region of the world, with any disciplinary background in the humanities and social sciences.
