Applications are now open for the ABE Initiative Master’s Degree, Internship Program, and SDGs Global Leadership Program 2025. Launched at the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) in 2013, the African Business Education Initiative for Youth (ABE Initiative) provides young Africans with a fully funded opportunity to study at Japanese universities and complete internships at leading Japanese enterprises. The program aims to build strong human networks between Japan and Africa while developing the human resources necessary to drive the development of both the private and public sectors across Africa.
The ABE Initiative was renewed in 2019 under ABE Initiative 3.0 to support 3,000 African youths over six years, with a focus on developing the next generation of leaders capable of tackling key sustainable development challenges across Africa. This initiative not only offers an academic experience but also provides real-world business exposure through internships in Japanese companies, creating a pathway to professional growth and cross-cultural understanding. Since its inception, more than 1,400 participants from across 54 African countries have been empowered by the program.
Empower young Africans committed to contributing to the development of African industries.
Create future leaders who will bridge the gap between Africa and Japan through a deep understanding of Japanese society, business culture, and international relations.
Offer opportunities for both public and private sector applicants to enhance their professional skills, thus fostering mutual growth for both African nations and Japan.
