The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust offers fully funded scholarships to support English language teaching professionals from low- and middle-income countries in their pursuit of a Master’s degree in TESOL. These scholarships are specifically for individuals who are committed to making a significant impact on education in their home countries by enhancing their skills in teaching English as a second language. Up to ten scholarships are available for the MEd TESOL Programme at the University of Exeter for September 2025 entry.

As a recipient of the A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship, you will benefit from the opportunity to study afully funded Master’s degree in TESOL at one of the UK’s leading universities. This is an excellent opportunity for TESOL professionals looking to advance their career while contributing to the capacity building of English language education in their communities. The program is designed to equip educators with advanced skills to address the evolving challenges in English language teaching.
You must be a resident of, and work in, a country defined as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income according to the OECD DAC list.
A minimum of three years of full-time TESOL teaching or related professional experience after your first degree.
An undergraduate degree (with grades equivalent to UK upper 2nd class honours or higher), or a relevant postgraduate degree.
You must first submit a Postgraduate application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL programmeto receive an Exeter student number, which is required to apply for the Hornby scholarship.
Application Process
Interested candidates must apply to the University of Exeter’s MEd TESOL programme first and receive a student number before applying for the A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship. Once you receive your student number, you will be able to submit your scholarship application through the University of Exeter’s online system.
