Hosted by the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN), this fellowship brings together talented journalists and media scholars from around the world to conduct in-depth research and produce a 7,000-word paper on a key topic in modern journalism.

The Al Jazeera Fellowship offers participants a unique platform to:

* Produce a 7,000-word research paper under the mentorship of Al Jazeera’s Media Institute experts.
* Immerse themselves in the Al Jazeera newsroom and gain a first-hand understanding of international journalism practices.
Programme Structure
The Fellowship lasts for 3 months, divided into two main phases:
Phase 1: Remote Research Preparation
* Fellows will develop and submit a detailed research plan and the introduction to their research paper.
* This phase focuses on building the research foundation and refining methodology.
Phase 2: Onsite at Al Jazeera Headquarters (Doha, Qatar)
* Fellows will continue their research within the Al Jazeera Media Network environment.
* Access to editorial departments, mentors, and media production resources will be provided.
* Fellows will finalize and submit their 7,000-word paper before the end of the programme.
Priority Research Areas (2026 Edition)
Applicants are encouraged to propose projects related to digital transformation and journalism in the Arab world, especially in the following fields:
1. Journalism and the Global South
2. Digital Journalism
3. New Schools of Journalism
4. Journalistic Ethics
5. Media Institutions and Challenges
Priority will be given to proposals addressing emerging challenges and innovations in journalism, especially within developing regions and digital ecosystems.

Requirements/ Eligibility criteria
This fellowship is designed for experienced journalists and researchers who meet the following requirements:
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (minimum requirement).
* Professional Experience: At least 4 years of professional experience in journalism or media-related research.
* Professional Status: Full-time journalist or researcher (either freelance or employed).
* Research Skills: Proven ability in academic writing and research methodology.
* Language Requirement: Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
* Academic Writing: Applicants must demonstrate a strong command of English academic writing.
* Regional Eligibility: The English Fellowship is open to applicants from non-Arab countries. Applicants from Arab countries should apply for the Arabic Fellowship Programme instead.
Duration
The programme will take 3 months to complete, divided into two main phases:
Phase 1 (To be completed remotely): The researcher will work on and submit a research plan and an introduction to his or her research paper before proceeding to phase 2.
Phase 2 (To be completed at Al Jazeera Media Network Headquarters): The researcher will continue the research until final submission of the paper.
