Brief Description

The African Youth Ambassadors for Peace (AYAP) is a strategic initiative by the African Union (AU) under its Youth for Peace (Y4P) programme. It empowers young Africans to actively participate in matters of peace and security across the continent. As a time-sensitive opportunity, the 4th Cohort call is now open — offering youth aged 18–35 a platform to advocate for peace, engage in regional policy dialogues, and build capacity in peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution.
This is more than just a title: AYAPs represent their regions, drive youth-led projects, and contribute to shaping continental peace policies aligned with the AU’s Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda.

African Union (AU) — specifically, the AU’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (PAPS).

Requirements / Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the 4th Cohort of AYAP, you must meet the following:
1. Be a citizen of an AU Member State (i.e., African youth).
2. Be between 18 and 35 years old for the duration of your AYAP term.
3. Hold at least a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent.
4. Have at least 2 years’ experience in peace and security, particularly with advocacy or resource mobilization in youth, peace, or security issues.
5. Demonstrate experience in multi-stakeholder dialogue or mediation, or in supporting peace processes.
6. Show a track record of engaging with your local community (e.g., youth groups, NGOs, civil society).
7. Possess strong communication and advocacy skills.
8. Be fluent in at least one of the AU’s working languages (English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili, Spanish) — knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
9. Demonstrate a commitment to AU’s Continental Framework on Youth, Peace, and Security (CFYPS) and its five priority areas.

Duration / Role of AYAPs
* Term: The selected ambassadors serve a two‑year, non-renewable tenure.
* Mission: AYAPs will:
* Advocate for youth participation in peace and security in their regions.
* Raise awareness of the AU’s CFYPS 10‑Year Implementation Plan in local communities and national structures.
* Support AU Member States in developing and implementing National Action Plans related to youth, peace, and security.
* Represent AU PAPS in meetings, workshops, and training concerning peace and security.
* Drive regional youth activities aligned with the five priorities of CFYPS: Participation, Prevention, Protection, Partnerships & Coordination, Disengagement & Rehabilitation.
