The SoCreative Africa Learning Programme is specifically tailored for aspiring and early-stage young African entrepreneurs interested in creative entrepreneurship. The programme offers a collection of free online courses that aim to develop the next generation of African leaders. These courses are designed to support entrepreneurs through their business journey, helping them build strong foundational business skills for success within the rapidly evolving creative economy.

Upon completing the programme, participants will receive a certificate of achievement from the British Council. This certificate will open up opportunities for further support through mentoring, coaching, incubation, and acceleration via the British Council’s entrepreneurship development network. This support system helps young entrepreneurs access the tools and guidance necessary to thrive in the creative economy and scale their businesses across Africa.

The programme is part of the British Council’s broader creative economy strand, which is aimed at fostering an entrepreneurship ecosystem in which young African entrepreneurs can innovate and excel. It supports individuals who are passionate about social impact and committed to contributing to Africa’s creative economy.


Programme Modules

The SoCreative Africa Learning Programme consists of three key modules:

  1. Creative Entrepreneurship:
    This module introduces participants to the fundamentals of creative entrepreneurship. It covers essential topics such as understanding the creative economy, developing a business idea, and the steps needed to bring your idea to life. Participants will also learn how to build a sustainable business in the creative sector, preparing them for success in an ever-changing market.
  2. Social Impact through Creative Entrepreneurship:
    This module dives into the concept of impact entrepreneurship. It focuses on social innovation and the role of creative entrepreneurs in addressing societal challenges. Participants will learn how to pivot their enterprisesto create lasting social impact and drive change within their communities. The module emphasizes the importance of aligning business goals with social outcomes, making it an essential tool for any entrepreneur with a passion for meaningful change.
  3. Creative Economy Policy:
    This intermediate course provides critical insights into the role of policy stakeholders in the creative economy. It’s ideal for entrepreneurs looking to understand the policies that shape the creative sector and how they can advocate for policies that support innovation and growth in their industries.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the SoCreative Africa Learning Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Aspiring and early-stage young African entrepreneurs.
  2. Availability to complete the self-paced online courses within the given timeframe.
  3. Residents of an African country, including Nigeria.
  4. An interest in creative entrepreneurship and a passion for social impact.
  5. Basic computer skills and internet access are required to complete the courses.
  6. Ability to complete the programme independently in a timely manner.
  7. Fluency in English, as all programme materials are in English.

Certificate and Further Support

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive a certificate of achievement. This certificate qualifies them to apply for sustained support through mentoringcoachingincubation, and acceleration initiatives, which are integral parts of the British Council’s creative economy support. This continued support is available in participating countries across Africa and offers entrepreneurs the guidance and resources they need to grow their businesses and expand their impact.
