Requirement/Eligibility
To qualify for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a citizen of, or have been granted refugee status by, an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
2. Permanently reside in an eligible Commonwealth country.
3. Possess at least five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, work experience in a relevant professional field by the start date of the fellowship. Voluntary work is not considered toward this requirement.
4. Be currently employed at the time of application. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to returning to their current employer after the fellowship.
5. Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years.
6. Be applying for a fellowship related to professional development; academic research and teaching roles are not eligible, except where the programme is related to academic management.
7. Be able to demonstrate how the fellowship aligns with the CSC’s six development themes and how the experience will enhance development in their home country.
8. Submit two valid references (at least one from their current employer) before the application deadline.
9. Meet the English language requirements as specified by the hosting institution or programme (as applicable).
10. Be available to travel to the UK for a placement that lasts from six weeks to three months during the fellowship timeline set by the CSC.
Duration/Stipend
The duration of the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship ranges from a minimum of six weeks to a maximum of three months, typically scheduled between February and May 2025. The fellowship is fully funded, with no cost to participants.
The financial support includes:
Return economy-class airfare from the fellow’s home country to the UK
Visa application fee reimbursement
Monthly living allowance of:
- £2,057 per month for placements outside of London
- £2,553 per month for placements within the London metropolitan area
- Arrival allowance of up to £1,156.60 for settling in and necessary expenses
- Up to £3,000 in additional funding available to host organisations to support fellows’ professional development activities such as short courses, conferences, and essential travel
- Support for disabilities, assessed on a case-by-case basis
