The 2026 DW Akademie French-speaking Master’s in International Journalism (MFJI) is now open for applications. This fully funded program targets media professionals from French-speaking countries in North and West Africa that partner with German development cooperation. Priority will be given to candidates permanently residing in Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire. The MFJI program, launched jointly by DW Akademie and the École publique de journalisme de Tours (EPJT), offers a unique opportunity for journalists and media professionals to gain advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in international journalism. The program equips participants with the skills necessary to excel in a rapidly evolving media landscape, enhance their reporting capabilities, and take on leadership roles within media organizations. Each year, ten exceptional candidates are selected through a rigorous two-phase selection process. The first phase involves an eligibility assessment based on the submitted application file. The second phase is the admission stage, which includes a written test and an oral interview. Applicants must satisfy the following criteria to be considered for the MFJI program: 1. Higher Education Diploma: * Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS/3 years) or higher. * The most recent diploma must have been awarded within the last 10 years at the time of application. * While applications are open to graduates of all disciplines, preference will be given to candidates with degrees in Information and Communication Sciences. 2. Professional Experience: * Candidates must demonstrate at least one year of professional experience in media and/or journalism. * This includes full-time employment, internships, volunteer work, or other forms of professional engagement. * Documentation is required, such as work certificates, internship certificates, or volunteer verification letters. 3. French Language Proficiency: * Applicants must provide proof of C1 or C2 level French proficiency via a valid DALF or TCF certificate. * Exemptions: Candidates are exempt if they have: * Obtained a French baccalaureate (in France or AEFE-approved institutions) * Completed higher education in French in France * Native French speakers from countries where French is the official language and whose education/work has been conducted in French 4. English Knowledge (Recommended but Not Mandatory): * A minimum B1 level in English is advantageous for following courses taught partially in English and for studying in Germany. * If candidates do not meet this requirement at the time of application, they are strongly encouraged to take an English course before the program begins.
