The Languages Teacher Training Scholarships (LTTS), offered by the British Council in partnership with the UK Department for Education (DfE), is a prestigious initiative designed to inspire and financially support talented individuals who wish to pursue a career teaching modern foreign languages in England.
With a generous scholarship award of £28,000, the program targets future teachers of French, German, and Spanish at the secondary school level. These scholarships aim to alleviate the financial pressures associated with teacher training and attract high-quality candidates with strong academic and language credentials.
The program is particularly timely, addressing the national shortage of qualified MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) teachers in English secondary schools. It serves both recent graduates and career changers who are passionate about teaching and have the necessary language expertise. This initiative not only supports the professional development of aspiring educators but also contributes significantly to the enhancement of language education in England’s schools.
Recipients of the scholarship benefit from more than just financial assistance—they gain access to exclusive networking opportunities, training events, and ongoing professional development support, empowering them to thrive in their new teaching careers.
