1. Applicants must be citizens of a developing or newly industrialized country as listed by the OECD-DAC.
2. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s) or Master’s degree (for PhD) in a related field, obtained within the last six years at the time of application.
3. At least two years of professional work experience after graduation, ideally in public institutions, development organizations, NGOs, or private industry relevant to the program of study.
4. Applicants must have an excellent academic record (typically top 30% of class or equivalent GPA).
5. Strong motivation to apply knowledge and skills gained in Germany to their home country’s development upon completion of studies.
6. Applicants must not have lived in Germany for more than 15 months prior to the application deadline.
7. For English-taught programs, proof of English proficiency is required (IELTS minimum 6.0 or TOEFL iBT minimum 80).
8. For German-taught programs, a minimum B1 proficiency in German is required, with further DSH or TestDaF certification to be completed during the preparatory phase.
