Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship 2025-2026

The Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship 2025-2026 is a prestigious, full-time program designed for individuals passionate about bringing impactful health technologies to life through needs-based innovation. Hosted at Stanford University in the heart of Silicon Valley, the fellowship focuses on identifying important unmet healthcare needs, inventing novel technologies to address them, and preparing to implement those technologies in real-world patient care settings.

This highly competitive program brings together aspiring innovators from diverse backgrounds—engineering, medicine, business, and design—to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams. Through a rigorous 10-month process, fellows are immersed in the entire biodesign innovation cycle, which includes need identification, concept creation, and strategy development for implementation. Fellows work closely with Stanford faculty, clinical mentors, industry leaders, and successful entrepreneurs who provide mentorship, guidance, and access to resources.

The program is grounded in the internationally adopted “Stanford Biodesign Process,” which offers a structured and proven approach to medical technology innovation. This model has been credited with launching over 50 health technology companies and training more than 200 global leaders in health innovation.
Fellows benefit from hands-on clinical immersion at Stanford Hospital and affiliated institutions, where they observe patient care, interview clinicians, and identify needs first-hand. The goal is to create real-world solutions that are clinically impactful, technically feasible, and commercially viable.

The fellowship culminates in the development of one or more innovative solutions to the high-priority healthcare needs identified during the program. Past fellows have gone on to found successful medtech companies, secure venture funding, develop FDA-approved devices, and lead innovation efforts in major healthcare and technology firms.

For anyone looking to deeply explore the intersection of healthcare and innovation while making a tangible impact on patients’ lives, the Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship offers an unparalleled experience.
