The USIP-DSCU Summer Scholar Fellowship Program

The USIP-DSCU Summer Scholar Fellowship provides graduate students and PhD candidates with a distinctive opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience in strategic communications and peacebuilding. Hosted by the prestigious United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and the Defense Strategic Communications University (DSCU), this fellowship is designed to help fellows immerse themselves in pressing issues related to global security and conflict resolution, with a special focus on the role of strategic communication in peace efforts. Fellows will develop a deep understanding of how strategic communications can influence policy and shape peacebuilding initiatives in conflict zones.

Over the course of the fellowship, participants will engage in a variety of activities designed to strengthen their expertise in international relationspeacebuilding, and public policy. Fellows will work on real-world projects, creating actionable strategies to enhance global security and improve international communication efforts. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the USIP-DSCU Summer Scholar Fellowship, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a graduate student or PhD candidate with a demonstrated interest in strategic communicationspeacebuilding, or public policy.
  • Have a strong academic record, with relevant coursework or research in international relationsglobal security, or related fields.
  • Submit a resume, a personal statement (maximum 2 pages), a writing sample (maximum 10 pages), and two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references familiar with the applicant’s work in communication studies or international relations.
