The World Bank Legal Vice Presidency’s (LEG VPU) Internship Program (Summer) 2025

The World Bank Legal Internship Program offers an excellent opportunity for law students to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the mission and daily operations of the World Bank Legal Vice Presidency (LEG VPU). This program is designed to give participants exposure to the World Bank’s legal services, helping them develop skills in international law, legal analysis, and policy-making, while working in a multicultural environment. Interns will have the chance to collaborate with legal professionals and senior management, attending high-profile events and conferences that provide real-world insights into the World Bank’s work.

The World Bank Internship Program is offered thrice a year for a period of 10-12 weeks at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C., as well as selected country offices. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to legal research, writing reports, and assisting in legal advisory services provided to the Bank’s operational teams. This experience is ideal for law students looking to gain exposure to international law and work in an organization that fosters global development and poverty alleviation.

Working as a legal intern at the World Bank will allow you to contribute innovative ideas and new perspectives to the team. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in international law and related fields, such as corporate governancehuman rights law, and environmental law. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the World Bank Legal Internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold citizenship of any IBRD member state
  • Currently enrolled in a law program such as LLBJDLLMSJDPhD, or equivalent
  • Have an excellent command of the English language
  • A good command of a second language (preferably Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish), which is important for communicating across the Bank’s global operations
  • Candidates should possess strong research and writing skills, as well as a keen interest in development law and international legal frameworks

Key Responsibilities of the Internship:

  • Work closely with the Legal Vice Presidency on legal matters related to the Bank’s global operations, policy development, and research
  • Assist in drafting legal memoranda and research reports
  • Participate in international law projects and gain exposure to legal aspects of global development
  • Support the preparation and organization of legal events, including conferences and workshops
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of legal experts, gaining insights into the World Bank’s role in global legal and economic development

Duration

The internship lasts for a period of 10-12 weeks, allowing interns to work closely with various teams in the Legal Vice Presidency to gain practical experience.
