2. Must hold at least an MSc or higher degree in a scientific discipline.
3. Candidates must be under the age of 40 as of 31 December in the year of application.
4. Must hold an active research position in a recognized institution in their home country.
5. Applicants must be actively engaged in sustainability-focused research tied to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
6. Must not be residing in Italy or affiliated with any Italian research institution at the time of application.
7. Applicants must obtain a signed invitation letter from a host institution located in Trieste or Udine, Italy, confirming availability and collaboration plans.
8. Must submit two letters of recommendation from academic referees who are familiar with the applicant’s research and capabilities.
9. All documents, including the application form, must be signed, scanned, and submitted in English via the online system.
10. Female scientists and those from underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given full consideration.
Duration/Stipend
The duration of the TWAS–SISSA–Lincei Research Cooperation Visit is three months. During this period, selected fellows will conduct joint research projects with Italian scientists in designated host institutions. The program covers international round-trip economy airfare from the participant’s home country to Italy, along with a monthly subsistence allowance that covers accommodation, meals, local transport, and minor research expenses.
There are no registration or application fees. All costs related to the visit are funded by MAECI through AICS, in line with Italy’s commitment to strengthening scientific capacity in LDCs.
