While the exact value and number of awards have not yet been announced, they are expected to be confirmed by December 2025. Importantly, the scholarship is renewable for each year of study up p to four years provided the student maintains strong academic performance and fulfills their responsibilities as a Student Ambassador.
The International Excellence Scholarship is open to students applying for most undergraduate programs across Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Business faculties. However, those applying for the Medicine program or the BA International Honours degree in partnership with the College of William & Mary are not eligible.
To apply, students must first submit their standard UCAS or direct application to the University of St Andrews for 2026 entry. Once that’s done, they can access the International Undergraduate Scholarships portal and complete the dedicated scholarship application. This includes submitting a Statement of Motivation (up to 2,000 characters), in which students are asked to explain their academic achievements, career aspirations, and how they plan to contribute to the St Andrews community.
Additionally, applicants must provide two short references: one academic (from a teacher or school official) and one personal (from someone outside the family who can speak to their character and leadership abilities). Each reference should be no more than 250 words.
