Requirements/Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen or refugee of an eligible Commonwealth country and permanently reside there.
  • Be registered for a PhD at a university in their home country by the time the scholarship begins in September 2025.
  • Ensure an institutional or departmental link exists between the home university and the proposed UK university. This link must go beyond individual collaborations and be part of a structured academic partnership.
  • Applicants must be available to begin their academic studies in the UK in September 2025.
  • By September 2025, applicants should hold a first degree of at least upper second-class honours (2:1) or a lower second-class degree plus a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need, as they should be unable to afford studying in the UK without this scholarship.
  • Applicants must submit all required supporting documentation in the prescribed format.
