To ensure that the program provides maximum benefit to both participants and the broader journalism community, the following eligibility criteria apply:
Professional Experience: Applicants must be full-time journalists with at least three years of professional experience in journalism. This ensures participants have a solid understanding of the journalistic process and can make the most of the academic environment at Chicago Booth.
Expertise or Interest in Economics: Although not a strict requirement, having prior experience or demonstrated interest in economics, business, or finance will greatly benefit participants. Those who have worked in economics, business reporting, or financial journalism are especially encouraged to apply.
Published Work: Applicants should provide samples of their published work, with a particular focus on their reporting in business, economics, or related fields. A portfolio that showcases depth and thoroughness in these areas will strengthen an application.

Duration/ Stipends
Duration: The Journalist-in-Residence Program runs for a three-month period. Participants can join the program either in January or September, depending on their availability. Each cycle is designed to provide an intensive and immersive experience.
Stipends: The program offers a comprehensive financial package to cover participants’ housing, travel, and living expenses during the three months.
