Bridging Open Work Permits Keep Skilled Workers on the Job
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requires that targeted candidates must have established an Express Entry profile before 12:16 a.m. Universal Coordinated Time on March 26, 2026. Applicants currently residing in the country who pursue permanent residence can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit while their applications process. If an existing work permit expires before that application clears, recipients benefit from maintained status to keep working under identical conditions, provided they stay within Canada. Eligible family members can also apply for the permit.
