Belém, the host city for COP30, sits in the heart of the Amazon region — making it a vital location for climate conversations concerning deforestation, indigenous rights, biodiversity conservation, and global warming mitigation. The fellowship therefore offers not just access to the summit, but also a powerful platform for covering climate justice and equity from a region deeply affected by environmental challenges.
Selected journalists will receive full funding to travel to and cover the conference. In addition to the logistical and editorial assistance, fellows will also participate in group briefings, roundtable discussions, interviews with negotiators and experts, and peer learning sessions. These experiences are intended to sharpen their reporting skills and expand their knowledge of international climate governance.
The CCMP has supported hundreds of journalists from developing nations in covering climate change over the past decade. This edition, aligned with COP30, reaffirms its commitment to inclusive environmental reporting, capacity-building, and amplifying underrepresented voices in the global climate discourse.
