Naturalization Records Under Federal Review
A former Immigration and Customs Enforcement lawyer noted that even if a U.S. citizen knowingly entered into a fraudulent marriage, that act alone does not provide legal grounds for deportation. The five-year statute of limitations has long expired on the 2009 ceremony, which ended in a legal divorce in 2017. Omar has repeatedly denied allegations from political opponents that Elmi is her brother, and the claim has never been publicly substantiated.
