Requirement/Eligibility
1. Registered PhD students at UK universities (one studentship available)
2. Registered PhD students at ACU member universities in Commonwealth countries other than the UK (one studentship available)
3. Research projects must meet at least one of the following criteria:
– Relate to the Commonwealth as a whole or to any Commonwealth-wide institution or organisation
– Have a Commonwealth comparative aspect
– Be of relevance to more than one Commonwealth country
4. Preference may be given to disciplines usually covered by The Round Table journal, including politics, international relations, economics, and area studies
Eligible Countries:
– Commonwealth countries, including but not limited to:
– United Kingdom
– Australia
– Canada
– India
– Nigeria
– South Africa
Studentship Details
– Two studentships available, each with a maximum value of £5,500
– Successful applicants will be required to submit an article (4,000-6,000 words) and a podcast on their research
– Mentorship program with a scholar from a different Commonwealth country
Application Process

– Applicants will be notified by mid-September
– Clearly articulate your research proposal and its relevance to Commonwealth studies
– Ensure your application meets the eligibility criteria and research focus
– Identify a suitable mentor and ensure they are willing to participate in the mentorship program
Mentorship Program
– Identify and work with a mentor at a university in a Commonwealth country other than your own
– Mentors will provide support and advice, contribute to the podcast or article, and receive an honorarium of £500
Research Focus
– Commonwealth-related themes in the humanities and social sciences
– Research projects must meet at least one of the following criteria:
– Relate to the Commonwealth as a whole or to any Commonwealth-wide institution or organisation
– Have a Commonwealth comparative aspect
– Be of relevance to more than one Commonwealth country
