Visa rules are the same across Nigeria, but where you submit your application is not. Some destinations have offices in several cities, others only in Lagos and Abuja. This guide shows which offices serve each region for the main destinations, and what the difference means for your cost, your travel and your planning.
Does Your City Change the Decision?
No. The visa rules, fees and requirements are set by the destination country, not by the city where you hand in your papers. What changes from city to city is how far you travel, how easy it is to get an appointment and which extra paid services are on offer. Be wary of any claim that applying in one city is “faster” or “easier” to approve. The UK, for example, says its decision time is counted from the day you prove your identity, wherever you do it.

Always confirm the centre list when you book, because providers add and change locations.
Fees and Extra Charges
The visa fee is the same wherever you apply. What differs is the cost of getting there and the optional extras. Premium UK centres offer courier return of documents and a “keep my passport” option for an added charge. At a Canada centre in Abuja, VFS lists paid extras such as photography, printing and courier, but booking a biometrics appointment is free. None of the extras is needed to get a visa.
A Hypothetical Example
This is an illustration, not a real case. An applicant in Kano wants a UK visit visa and a German visa in the same year. For the UK she can use the Kano centre. For Germany, she must plan a trip to Lagos, so she books a flight and two nights of accommodation around the appointment, and keeps all her documents in hand luggage. The extra cost of the second application is the travel, not the visa fee.

- Arrive the day before if you are travelling a long way.
- Carry every original and your confirmation. A missed document may mean a second journey.

Can I apply in a different city from where I live?
For centres run by providers you usually choose your preferred centre when you book. Embassies may set their own rules about who they serve, so check before you travel.

There is no official basis for that claim. Appointment availability is the difference you will actually notice.
